Updated Tray
I found this tray on the same thrifting mission that I found Tom’s Table. At the time, I had been watching (and drooling over) DIY and Upcycled Trays done by Christy at Confessions of a Serial DIYer (she makes them look so pretty, doesn’t she? I love her projects and have been following her for years), so I snatched this one up to try my hand at one of my own.
I can’t say for sure, but I’m pretty sure this tray may have already been upcycled from a picture frame. I could be wrong, but it had a pane of glass protecting the paper (Wrapping paper? Wall paper? I’m not sure). I removed the glass and the paper and everything else that was stuffed in there, and cut a piece of plywood I had in my stash to fit. It ended up being the perfect thickness to sit flush with the frame. I’m telling you guys…that hardly ever happens for me.
I attached it with a bead of glue and some pressure and let it sit overnight to cure.
The next day I painted it all in Caviar by Dixie Belle and stenciled it using Farmhouse Silkscreen Stencils by Belles and Whistles (also sold by Christy at her Etsy shop – seriously fast shipping and awesome products!). I fell in love with those stencils. I have never had a stencil come out so crisp and clean before! I was hooked.
I added new handles, distressed a bit, gave it a coat of wax, and here it is now…
I debated on adding tiny legs to make it a riser and give it some height, but decided against it. It may work better as shelf or wall decor since I only added the bottom with wood glue.
Side Note: One of these days, I’m going to slow down and get more pictures of the redo process as I go along, I promise. And speaking of pictures, if anyone reading has any tips on blog photography, I would love to hear them.
My Next Project:
Come back soon to see what I do with this foot stool…
