Updated Trinket Box

It’s been a couple weeks since I posted, but I’m back with some news and the promised trinket box update from my velvet foot stool post.

First the news…I rented a booth. It was kind of planned, kind of spur-of-the-moment. I stopped in at our local indoor flea market and inquired about booth space – just to see, you know? Yeah…I walked out of there with the paperwork to my very own 10×5 booth. Maybe it’s 10×4…I’m not sure. And I’ve been in such a whirlwind trying to work full-time, AND get it filled up, I’m going to be honest…I haven’t measured. But it’s big enough for me for now.

I’m trying to get it filled up and set up with a nice display. Y’all – that is way harder than you’d think it would be. So I’m scouring the internet for ideas, and adding a little bit as I go. It’ll get there.

Now onto the trinket box.

I got this box because I am a lover of boxes and all things that store stuff. Because I know I can very easily have hoarder tendencies if I didn’t keep it in check. So a spot for the stuff that doesn’t have a spot? It’s my kryptonite.

Plus, I wanted to see what I could do with it.

I started by digging in to the resin-covered domed ship scene on top. I had no idea how it was in there at first. I tried a couple different wasy to get it out…chipping, sanding, etc. I finally got a small piece of an edge loose and it eventually popped out. It still wasn’t easy, BUT it didn’t destroy the rest of the box (I’m shocked) so I’m calling it a win.

Then I took out the bea-u-tiful red velvet lining. That actually came out easily (I was shocked again).

While I waited on that to dry, I worked on the inside and the lid.

Now, you guys may be sick of seeing my ticking fabric, but I absolutely love the timeless classic-ness of it. For the outer lid, inside lid and bottom, I wrapped the ticking in foam board cut to size. On the bottom piece, I also add a thin layer of batting just for extra cushion.

Then I cut a strip to size to go around the sides of both the lid and the bottom. I glued that all around the edge. I hot-glued the fabric to the board, then hot-glued the board to the box.

I thought I had it lined up to where the lines meet, but apparently I didn’t. By then it was glued and too late (sigh).

After some light distressing, I gave the box a coat of Dixie Belle’s Best Dang Wax in clear
